Pilatus Pilatus (6955 ft) is a scenic peak located about 5 miles to the south of the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. This is a popular tourist spot, with a hotel and restaurant at the summit, which can be reached by a cog railway from Alpnachstad from the south or by a tram from Kriens to the north. If you want to walk, there are trails, which reach the summit from all four directions. Don't let the short distance deceive you; the slopes are rather steep and the elevation gain from the railway stations at Alpnachstad or Hergiswil is over 4500 ft (by the way, the cog railway is reputedly the steepest in the world).
