| Day 1
Kathmandu Arrival
Our tour officers or foreign language guides will offer a hearty welcome
to the Kingdom. We are transferred to our hotel. In the evening we visit
a local ethnic restaurant and dine amidst olden splendor.
Day 2
Living Goddess Temple
A full day of sightseeing to take in the important historical and cultural
attractions of the Valley. We start the day by visiting the center of
the old city of Kathmandu. The palace of the mediaeval Malla kings “Hanuman
Dhoka” and the temple dedicated to the living goddess “Kumari”
are the highlights.
We visit Baber Mahal Revisited, a resplendently restored old “Rana”
palace, now a complex for shopping local arts and crafts and for enjoying
a constantly growing selection of fine cuisine. We have lunch at one of
the restaurants.
Day 3
Dakshinkali, Kirtipur
We take an excursion to Dakshinkali Temple; the temple devoted to Goddess
Kali who takes blood sacrifices from its devotees in age-old Tantric ritual.
Goats, chickens and ducks are sacrificed every Tuesday and Saturday. Enroute
we visit Chobar Gorge through which the primeval Kathmandu Valley Lake
was drained out to make the valley habitable. We have lunch at Haatiban
Resort, located on top of a pine-forested hill and offering panoramic
views of Kathmandu valley and the Himalayan ranges beyond. After lunch
we visit the mediaeval town of Kirtipur famous in history as the most
resilient of the Malla forts during the unification of Nepal in the 18th
Century.
Day 4
Dhulikhel
We take an excursion to Dhulikhel, the famous mountain resort offering
great views of the Himalayan vista. Enroute we visit Bhaktapur City, called
the city of devotes and now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. We check in
at our resort.
Day 5
Dhulikhel – Namobuddha
We take a hiking trip to the famous temple associated with the story of
the Buddha. We take packed lunch for the trip. We return to our resort
in Dhulikhel.
Day 6
Dhulikhel - Changunarayan – Nagarkot
We visit the Vishnu temple at Changunarayan, the oldest extant in Nepal,
which survived the ravages of time and an Islamic invasion from Bengal.
From here we go to another hilltop resort of Nagarkot and check in at
our resort.
Day 7
Nagarkot
Free day at Nagarkot relaxation.
Day 8
Pashupatinath, Bodhnath
We return to Kathmandu taking in two more famous places: Pashupatinath,
the most sacred temple for the Hindus of the Indian Subcontinent and Bodhnath,
the center of worship for the Tibetan Buddhists.
