| Day 1
Kuala Lumpur
Meet on arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and transfer to
hotel.
PM: proceed on a half day City Tour of Kuching with visits to Margherita,
the Court House, the Post Office, the Pavilion, the Square Tower, Satok
Suspension Bridge, the Cat Monument and Malay villages. Return to hotel.
Overnight.
Day 2
Skrang River
After breakfast depart for Skrang River Safari. The overland journey is
232 km from Kuching passing padi fields, rubber plantations, pepper orchards,
small farm houses, villages, small towns and lush secondary and virgin
jungles. Arrive Pais, board a native motorised longboat for the last stretch
of the journey along the scenic Skrang River with the added excitement
of 'shooting the rapids' during the dry season when the river is extremely
low. Arrive at Bunu Long house in the late afternoon. The highlight of
the tour is an evening with the natives who perform traditional dances
to the beat of gongs and drums. Join them in the dance and try ituaki
(home-brewed rice wine). Overnight at guesthouse.
Day 3
Skrang River / Kuching
After breakfast go for a short jungle trek accompanied by scantily clad
Ibans with blowpipe. After a taste of the adventure return to Kuching.
Overnight.
Day 4
Kuching - Semonggok / Matang Wildlife
Breakfast. Depart for a half-day visit to Orang Utan Wildlife Centre at
Semonggok or Matang.
Semonggok: a one-half hour's walk on wooden plankwalks
through the beautiful rainforest to the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.
The sanctuary is of Orang Utans rescued from captivity. They would be
carefully nurtured and rehabilitated until eventual release into the jungle.
Feeding times are at 08.30 am and 3.00 p.m. daily.
Matang: situated about 45 minutes drive away from the
city. It houses not only Orang Utans but some honey bears, hornbill, gibbons,
eagles, storks and barking deer. Return to hotel. Overnight.
Day 5
Departure from Kuching
Breakfast. Transfer to airport. End of tour. |
